  34. Hello netters,
  35.    I'm looking for information/schematics on how to make a GPS reciever.
  36.    It must be fairly simple to make and cost around $10.00 to build. :-)
  37.    Seriously though, I'd like it to be resonable in price. I want to build
  38.    one to use for making maps for orienteering and also to track myself
  39.    on excursions into the deep woods. There is nothing I can't handle
  40.    in the digital world but the world of high frequency analog is kind
  41.    of a mystery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  75. I've not been able to find much on portable Oscar 13
  76. stations--ones that work well with little antennas
  77. and low power.  The QRP publications seem to focus
  78. on the low earth orbit satellites.

  80. I tried Mode S, 6 watts to a 5.5 ft boom 436 MHz
  81. yagi and a 2 ft. dish with a 2.4 GHz feed, but
  82. only made 6 contacts in 3 hours (1 hr/day).

  84. Problem was, several stations had trouble hearing
  85. my signal, even though it sounded fine to me.
  86. I could sometimes hear myself clearly running
  87. 6 dB less power (1.5 watts). 
  88.  
  89. Should I try Mode B or work on my 436 antenna?

  91. I prefer small antennas I can stick in my car
  92. without taking apart.  Makes a big difference
  93. when the weather changes for the worse....
